Produced from 120 year old vines, RunRig has been awarded with scores of no less the 95/100 since 1995 and no fewer than 7 vintages receiving 99/100. The 2017 is awarded a whopping 98/100 by Robert Parker.
The Runrig is considered one of the top 25 'excellent' benchmark wines by winespectator magazine and the 2017 is the a Runrig that balances power and elegance so well.
The cool vintage has done great things for Torbreck's most premium Shiraz. While it still sports broad shoulders, this bottling offers dashes of elegance and freshness. Black currant, plum, beet root, cocoa powder and gentle herbs and spices are supported by cola-like oak. The tannins are muscular but fine, tautly woven into the sleek mouthfeel. Whilst is already ready to drink, it will continue to develop and improve - this should be a stunner with time.
It's full-bodied and concentrated but supple and silky enough to seem lighter in the mouth, showing tremendous length and elegance on the finish, where it adds nuances of cinnamon and cocoa.
