Often compared to top-quality Brunello, because this was grown as a Brunello, with tiny yields from fossil-filled vineyards. After two years of aging, all casks are tasted and are subsequently chosen for Rosso or Brunello.
Located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, facing Orcia Valley where Orcia River runs through it, the harvest takes place manually and the grapes are carried into the cellar in small cases. The grape selection follows the same precision that is used for Brunello.
"Restrained raspberries, leather, violets and cherry stones with rusty minerality. Supple palate with full body, tension from lifted acidity and dense, velvety tannins. Precise and long-lasting finish. One of the best in its category in a promising vintage." James Suckling
"The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is dark and intense, with an abundance of smoky black cherries, sage and incense. It has a core of ripe wild berries, underlined by salty minerals and savoury spice accompanied by zesty acidity. The 2021 finishes structured and long, with a concentration that reminds me more of a Brunello than a Rosso, leaving grippy tannins and a hint of sour citrus that keeps me coming back to the glass." Vinous
This is bright, pretty and vivacious, with incredible aromatics. The palate is elegant and complex, superior to many Brunellos. This is a work of the highest craft: Brunello intensity meets Burgundian finesse.
