From the internationally renowned 'King of Loire' this is his masterpiece - produced exclusively in the best years
Baron Patrick de Ladoucette & the surrounding vineyards have a reputation for producing the finest Pouilly-Fumé.
The vineyards are in Pouilly-Fumé Contrôlée, which includes Pouilly-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain and Tracy-sur-Loire at the eastern end of the Loire Valley (including the vineyard of the Château du Nozet estate). Both clay and limestone influence the delicate characteristics in this wine, produced exclusively in the best years and from the first pressing of the estate's grapes. These vineyards have an average age of 40 years old and are considered to be some of the finest that in the region. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are harvested by hand, so they are in optimum condition and freshness when they reach the winery at Chateau du Nozet which is no more than 6 minutes any of the above vineyards.
Considered one of the most famous Sauvignon Blancs in the world, Baron de L is an exceptional cuvée, created way back in 1975, Baron Patrick de La Doucette himself created a private reserve of Pouilly-Fumé. Bottled in a replica of a heavy 18th century bottle, it was the first private reserve for a white wine in history.
Produced only in the finest vintages and in very limited quantities, it is the masterpiece of Domaine de Ladoucette in the Pouilly Fumé appellation.
Baron de L Pouilly Fume is made from only the free-run juice, whereby only the juice released by the weight of the grapes themselves is used. This is considered be the highest quality juice available. The parcels from each vineyard are vinified separately and the wine is left to mature on the lees for 3 to 6 months. Finally the parcels are blended to make the final assemblage and the wine is then left to rest on the lee, with lees stirring, in glass tiled vats for eight to ten months. The wine is then bottled after 2 years in the cellar of the Chateau.
Unlike many other other Sauvignon Blancs, Baron de L Pouilly Fume has the cellaring potential to gracefully age for 5 to 10 years and longer.
