This second wine of Chateau Angludet is a perfectly mature claret that shows the elegance and finesse of it’s more grown up sibling at a fraction of the price.
This Second wine of Chateau Angludet is perfectly ready to drink. It's elegant, fresh and has delicious tertiary notes of liquorice, cigar box and leather. It comes from the same 34 hectares of vines that counts as Angludet's vineyard. There are no main differences in the way the vines are cultivated and the vinification methods between Angludet and Réserve d'Angludet. The distinction between the wine which will make the Château Angludet and La Réserve d'Angludet is only done after the harvest. A series of thorough tasting carried out by Ben Sichel determines the final distinction. Consequently, La Réserve d’Angludet offers the best quality for price in the entire Margaux appellation.
Expect silky, red and dark fruits abound with notes of cedar and liquorice sitting alongside well-integrated spice, leather and oak. Medium-bodied and approachable now but there is still enough structure to suggest further ageing would be possible.
2013 was not considered one of the finest years in Bordeaux, but we were so surprised at how enjoyable this second wine from Chateau Angludet is drinking at the moment.
The words ‘Bordeaux’ and ‘Bargain’ are not often used together, but this excellent value red shows that if you look properly there is still great value to be had in the region.
This is a wine to drink now. It has a couple of years left, if you want to put it away in your wine cellar for a couple of years, but it would not really improve - it's perfectly ready now.
Decant to remove the sediment and serve within a couple of hours.
