"Ciampoleto" Rosso di Montalcino has impressive depth and structure for a Rosso - Such fantastic value
Whilst Brunello di Montalcino must be aged a minimum of four years, including two years in barrel before release and more time in bottle for its drinking potential to be fully reached, the “baby brother” version called Rosso di Montalcino is often made from younger vines, aged for about a year before release and offer extraordinary value whilst usually ready to drink much earlier.
Oak aging: 12 months
Grape: Sangiovese
The "Ciampoleto" has a medium ruby red colour that catches the eye, while the nose reveals a refined bouquet of red berries layered with blackcurrant, black cherry, a hint of sage, and a subtle smokiness.
On the palate, "Ciampoleto" is firm yet expressive, unfolding layers of ripe wild berries, spice, and a delicate touch of almond, all supported by velvety tannins. For a Rosso, it surprises with impressive depth and structure, finishing on a soft cherry note with lingering hints of licorice and a whisper of salty minerality.
"Graceful nose of liquorice root, restrained raspberries and pressed violets. The attack is firm and crisp, as you'd expect from Sangiovese, but with supple cherries and ripe tannins. The finish is chewy and chalky, but dynamic." James Suckling
