2016 will remembered as one of the greatest vintages of the 21st Century and Chateau Olivier Grand Cru Classe 2016 is a superb red wine example from Pessac Leognan in Graves.
With origins dating back to the Middle Ages, Château Olivier is one of Bordeaux’s most storied estates. Once a noble fief, the land was entrusted to a sheriff by the cook in exchange for services, while legends tell of princes hunting in its vast surrounding forests.
The château’s history stretches as far back as the 12th century, making it one of the oldest in Bordeaux. Located just beyond the city gates, Château Olivier has been under the stewardship of the Bordeaux-based Bertmann family since the 19th century.
Spanning 55 hectares, the estate’s vineyards benefit from an exceptional terroir, perfectly suited for both red and white grape varieties. The soils—a mix of gravel, clay, and limestone—support six different grape varieties, while the estate’s unique microclimate fosters wines of great complexity, depth, and refinement.
