Chateau Latour is rated as a First Growth under the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Latour lies at the very southeastern tip of the commune of Pauillac in the Médoc region to the north-west of Bordeaux, at its border with Saint-Julien, and only a few hundred metres from the banks of the Girondeestuary. The estate's grand vin is one of the most expensive Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot wines made in the Bordeaux Médoc region.

The 2014 vintage is considered a classic Bordeaux vintage that favoured Cabernet Sauvignon-focused wines. It was considered as the best vintage since 2010, but due to the legendary 2015 and 2016 vintages, the 2014 remained somewhat underappreciated, which is a great pity. Thankfully, 10 years later the vintage is getting the recognition it deserves.

Chateau Latour is often considerd the very best of the 2014 vintage, with many critics regarding the Latour as the best wine of the vintage.

Jane Anson states how "The depth, power and just sheer confidence of Latour shines through. This is an extremely classic 2014 - everything in focus, with clarity, grip and poise, sculpted blackcurrant and blackberry fruits, touches of raspberry leaf and crushed rocks...Easily one of the wines of the vintage, and one to take your time with, allowing the slow progression of flavours and textures to unroll at their own pace. It will benefit from another few years in bottle before really getting underway, and has decades ahead."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate seems to agree with the Latour being the wine of the vintage "The 2014 Latour is one of the very finest wines of a vintage that favored the northern Médoc. Mingling aromas of wild berries and cassis with hints of cigar wrapper, loamy soil, black truffles and classy new oak, it’s full-bodied, rich and concentrated, its broad attack segueing into a deep, tightly wound mid-palate that’s framed by powdery, chalky tannins and bright acids, concluding with a long, mouthwatering finish. This classically balanced, youthfully structured young wine looks set to enjoy prodigious longevity. It’s reminiscent of a modern-day version of a cooler vintage such as 1996, though of course these days maturity is more complete and selection even more rigorous than was the case two decades ago"

Jancis Robinson, known to like elegance also love the 2014 and reports that this wine is "Big and bold and spicy with intensity. So much on the end! Massive density. Dry tannins but luscious fruit too. Really pure and so Pauillac!"
