A lovely, rich and fresh wine that is drinking beautifully at the moment

Ready, but will keep

Home to the Sichel family since 1961, Château Angludet is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc, with a history which goes back to the twelfth century. A wine that punches so much above its weight, it shakes up the entire hierarchy of the Margaux Grand Cru system.

Tasting notes:

Beautiful, deeply coloured wine. The initially discreet bouquet opens gradually and quietly to offer a complete array of aromas ranging from notes of cassis, blackberry and spices to violet with a very elegant hint of oak. The hallmarks of the terroir are definitely present on the palate in the elegant, fine tannins, balanced flavours and fine texture. The wine is drinking beautifully with great ageing potential.

Ch. Angludet is always one of the most reliable châteaux. The rich concentration is so generous and rewarding. I love the sweetness at the front of the palate. It has good depth, a bit of intensity and lovely tannins that harmoniously combine with an appealing acidity on the finish. Often described as a traditionalist's wine, this is rather delicious. Cabernet provides the power here, but it is so restrained, floral, aromatic and flavoursome. Margaux performed very well in 2015 and this wine reflects the quality of the vintage. Given that the price is always appropriate to the quality of the wine here,

"Big earthy fruit though a touch leathery, with old vines evident in structure and depth. A serious wine on the masculine side of Margaux" Steven Spurrier Decanter

International critic ratings:

93/100 Wine Enthusiast

91/100 Jeff Leve

91/100 Tim Atkin

Cellaring potential:

2021 - 2030 (however since this is in a large format (1.5L), it will continue to be enjoyed well past 2030)

Food Pairing: Pairs well with grilled meats, especially lamb and beef and the high content of Cabernet Sauvignon allows the wine to complements rich dishes like steak and hearty stews.
